Beef Stew

   Minimize
Ingredients A    
3 lbs. Stew Beef (cut into 1” cubes)
2 tsp. Garlic (minced)
2  Tbs. Red Wine
1  tsp. Pepper
     
Ingredients B  
3-4 Cups Water *
1 Cup  Oyster Sauce
    Cup Soy Sauce
3   Stars Anise
1 tsp Each: 5 spice powder, cinnamon powder, salt
2  Tbs.   Brown Sugar
     
Ingredients C  
2 Cups Carrot (chopped)
2 Cups Celery (chopped)
1   Onion (chopped)
2  Cups Potato (chopped)

  

  1. Heat 2 Tablespoons of Oil in the wok, then stir fry Ingredients A until meat is browned.
  2. Scoop out the meat or drain the fats & liquid from meat, and put the meat in a stew pot. Add Ingredients B and boil.
  3. Cut Ingredients C into desirable size.
  4. Add Ingredients C into the pot and boil, then turn heat to medium-low heat, simmer for 40-50 minutes. Gently stir the pot every 15-20 minutes to make sure that nothing burns on the bottom of the pot.
  5. Remove from heat and serve.
 
Depending on how soupy you like your stew, you may add more water as desired. Just make sure you increase/decrease oyster & soy sauces accordingly.
 
(Enjoy Beef Stew with some garlic bread or sour dough. Or simply a bowl of beef stew in cold winter night, it is very heart warming!)
